Illawarra Skywalk
The next stop on our way down south took us west into the mountains that lined the Coal Coast and through the rainforest to the highest point of the cliffs that overlook the coast. This was a bit of a struggle for the overworked, under-maintained, fully-loaded 17 year old van as the hills were extremely steep. We had to pull over several times to let people pass.
Yes, we were those people.
Anyway, once we had finally whipped the van until it staggered over the crest of the mountains, we came across Ilawarra Skywalk. Charlotte, using her magic passes, gained us free entry into the skywalk.
The skywalk is a 1.5km walk through temperate rainforest, hovering on suspended platforms 20 above the forest floor, level with the treetops. These are suspended, and as such they shake and move with wind and your foot movement, so they are actually a little less relaxing than they're probably designed to be!
The pinnacle of the skywalk is the Knight's Tower, a 45m high tower balanced on a narrow pole that really doesn't stop moving, but gives incredible views over the entire coast!
