Cape Conran, Marlo & Orborst
At this point, after leaving Eden, we found ourselves on the Princes Highway going through vast amounts of rainforest that mark the bottom east corner of Australia. We were leaving New South Wales and entering Victoria, and our first stop off point was a national park rainforest walk which was closed off with a sign due to high levels of flood water which had damaged the bridge.
I went and had a look anyway, along the rainforest track, but didn't cross the bridge. It looked a little past its prime.
After this, we made our way to Cape Conran, again somewhere we found from the surf guide. It had outstanding views and it was our first sighting of the southern coast of Australia. The water was crystal clear and we could see loads of fish swimming around off the jetty. The beach itself was made up almost entirely of shells, so the beach crunched under your feet.
After Cape Conran, we found our way along the road towards a small village called Marlo. There wasn't alot there apart from some interesting sand bars crossing the rivermouth, which formed a walk that we went for an explore along.
We sat and watched the sunset next to a group of pelicans before driving to our campsite in Orborst.
Orborst was a night-time stop over and we had a small explore of the town. It was pitch black and in the middle of what looked very much like the somerset levels. We discovered it was very overpriced, but we did have a nice burger and chips by an open log fire, which helped ease the bitter cold we experienced on the south coast!
